Possibly one of the greatest sequels to an all time classic film. Maybe a little long, but the imagery is fantastic, storyline decent and interesting, with a fantastic sound and picture quality. The first time I watched it, which was in 2D, it felt a little long and fairly slow, but the second time round when I watched it in 3D it didn’t feel as long. The 3D was done really well, only enhancing when it needed to.
And whilst I’m not a great fan of Hans Zimmer, I think the score/soundtrack he produced for this film paid a lot of respect to the original, and paying a nice homage with one of the tracks. Whilst it doesn’t really flow as an album when listened to in isolation, it definitely enhances the movie and its feel.
9/10 from me. Maybe even 9.5.

And to add to this, I watched the original along with this last Saturday in 4K. The original has a few scenes which are a bit grainy, but the clean looking shots looked stunning. I noticed it wasn’t an Atmos soundtrack, so I presumed that the sound would be the same as the Bluray - not the case! 5 mins in I was thinking to myself that it was sounding better. After half an hour I was totally convinced, so I popped over to Bluray.com to find a review of the 4K release. “Sure as eggs is eggs, and every odd numbered Star Trek is shit” (Spaced reference there), the soundtrack had been remastered. Previously, I always thought the soundtrack was a bit ‘meh’, nothing special, nothing stand out. But this is. It reminded me of the Criterion release of The Game. Lots of little things were standing out instead of being mixed in with everything else, creating a much more interesting soundtrack with more projection from the speakers, if that makes sense. The normal Bluray looks good, but the 4K looks and sounds better. Highly recommended.

Yep, loved it David! I still haven’t seen the first movie yet - next purchase. I watched it on Play.com TV first and thought the picture was amazing and a really good storyline (kept me interested at least, which is rare) and then bought the 4K Blu-ray too.

That’s like watching The Godfather part 2 before watching part 1!! The picture is stunning, as is the audio. It even stood out as being pretty special at the cinema.

I’ll be viewing this on a friend’s Atmos system early next month - supposed to sound stunning in Atmos.
