I went to see this last week, and with it being so good, I decided to go and see it tonight on an IMAX screen - unfortunately, only 3D was on offer.
No no need to worry though, as the 3D is excellent! Anyone on the fence as to whether to see it in 3D really should do as it adds so much to so many scenes.
Theres real depth (nothing poking out at you), and everything seems to be at the correct depth, making it look very natural, none of this foreground and background only nonsense. There's also no conflicting rubbish flying around the screen that can't decide where it should be.
And Ana De Armas looks rather nice in it too.
If you're a fan of the original, go see this in 3D IMAX.

Hi David, I loved the original movie and have the HD version as well as the blu-ray (yes I know HD died a death, bad choice) and whilst I was really looking forward to the sequel, I never got around to going to the picture house to see it. Now, we are about a month away from it being available via streaming and just a little longer for 4K UHD Blu-ray, so will be getting to see it soon, but I have read reports about the pace being slow and/or the film being too long. On reflection, is it a recommended addition to a home collection or is it something that has to be experienced on a large 3D screen (larger than my 72 inch 3D PJ or my 55 inch (non 3D) OLED)?

It is quite a slow film, and probably is a tad long, which still came across on the second viewing, but I didn't really care because I knew it was an interesting and enjoyable film.
The second time I watched it, I watched it in 3D. I have to say I was really impressed with the 3D - no issues at all, and it really added depth to many scenes. Along with Toy Story 3 and Gravity, this is a film I'd want 3D for. Like Prometheus, there's some great landscapes and cityscapes that just cry out for big screens - my PJ isn't working at the moment, but I'm having a 55" TV delivered today, which will be my main viewing screen for the time being - a definite improvement on the 39" one I was using! Not 3D unfortunately though.

I've finally seen it! I just mentioned it on that thread on the other site, not that it'll survive in cyberspace for very long I've got to say that I really enjoyed it, I was a bit worried that I wasn't going to, but my fears were well and truly allayed. Although if I'm completely honest I don't think it matched up to the original but, as I said elsewhere, that would be a tall order, particularly as that film is, was and probably always will be one of my top five favourite films. Seriously wish I'd seen the new one at the cinema though, that would've been cool. We've got a new cinema (with Imax) opening fairly close by next year, so I'm going to start going to see films as they were meant to be seen again - I haven't been for several years, I know, shocking!!

You may still catch cached pages if you search for something specific...
2049 was something else in IMAX. Some of the cityscapes looked epic, and the orange, dusty part of LA with the huge female statues just looked - well - huge! If it ever comes round again on IMAX, I thoroughly recommend it.

Yeah, I'll certainly look out for it at the Imax when it opens, I bet it looks awesome.
