Hi David, interested in your view on these two with the smaller version now appearing. Do they sound better on stands or on a desk eg. Which is better? if you are comparing the Kef LS50 wireless against a £4500 speaker system which is best? Thanks any deal deals with Black Friday nearly here?

The LS50 Wireless is still the superior speaker. Bass performance on the LS50 Wireless benefits from a larger bass driver, 200 watts to drive it with (as opposed to 70 watts for the LSX), and more cabinet volume. The LS50 Wireless will sound sweeter too as it used Class AB amplification for the HF unit, whereas the LSX is purely Class D. The LSX is a more compact version for those with very little space, but there will be performance compromises to achieve that. If you’re comparing the LS50 Wireless against £4.5k’s worth of ‘equivalent’ system, the most direct comparison would be the passive LS50s, a streamer like the Bluesound Node, and maybe a Hegel H190 amplifier. There will be certain benefits exclusive to the LS50 Wireless with it being of an active design, but I still think choices would be split, as they’re for two different people. The LS50 Wireless appeals to those who want a simple system that sounds great, of whom some will really be wanting or needing to use the set-up features of the app. As an example, a recent customer bought a pair of LS50 Wireless to be used on a boat, which from a listening space point of view brought all sorts of issues that a normal room would, plus some unique ones too. Using the control app, the user was able to tailor the bass response to suit the listening space. Other people feel safer separating out the system and having different boxes do the various jobs - this way they’re able to use the front end they want, and also choose their own amplification - some may prefer valve amplification. This route obviously allows a wider speaker choice too. The LS50 Wireless has been popular with people wanting to ditch their multi-box systems and get something simple and relatively compact that sounds great - and to be honest, very few systems for the same price as the LS50 Wireless will sound as good - they’ll just give you more choice of individual components. With regards to Black Friday deals, I won’t be running any exclusive ones, but I will be watching what everyone else is doing, and at least matching theirs. I might start a thread on that actually - if anyone’s listening...

"if anyone’s listening..." I'm all ears! Well, its a bit quiet round here. Partly my fault for not posting more, but I thought some might post every now and again with WHF gone. No worries, I’m quite happy to just leave it here and let people use it as and when - I’m not trying to take over the world
