www.whathifi.com/advice/8k-tv-everything-you-need-to-knowI think I will probably get one and an 8K Blu-ray player. I will go for LG Oled again if it’s still Top Dog and maybe a cheapish 8k Blu-ray player until the big dogs start coming out with them eg Pioneer. Going to start demoing them in the shops soon to see what I think of them. I am only going to make worthwhile upgrades from now on and not buy sidewards like I have sometimes in the past been doing. I love seeing new new technologies in the shops and coming out, I get a real buzz out of it that’s why I like this hobby so much. Does 8K TVs interest you? I might even go up in size from a 65-inch to 75 or 77-inches.

I think you’ll need something larger than 77” to appreciate 8K. Even now, 4K will get you a really great looking 10-15ft screen with a projector. I think you’re going to have to be looking at 100” Asa minimum - unless you’re sitting three feet away of course!
Think about it Gel - there are films that haven’t even made it to 1080p Bluray yet. And we’re not talking crap films. True Lies? Awesome film, but you can only watch it on DVD. It’s bad enough that 4K is here and no True Lies, but 8K? How long will it be before that format settles down?!! You can guarantee there’ll be some major change to it within a couple of years for it to be able to accommodate some new audio format or a major change to some video aspect. Steer well clear until at least 2025 I say!

Yep, good advice - thanks David. I was looking at my TV last night thinking it can’t get much better than this surely anyway. Cheers David! Not unless you’re looking at a much bigger picture. 4K allows you to use a screen twice the width and twice the height and maintain the same quality. Whichever 4K screen you’re currently using, an 8K screen will allow you to go twice the width and twice the height again, and maintain the same quality again. So if you were using a 42”, 1080p screen, you could move to an 84” 4K screen and watch the same quality (all things being equal). If you then went to a 168” 8K screen, you will enjoy the same quality as the 42” was giving you, but at the much larger size. I appreciate that not everyone will see a difference between 1080p and 4K on a 55” screen, but that’s what you’ll need as a minimum to start appreciating it, in my opinion. Therefore, you’ll be looking at least 100”, maybe 120” for 8K.

Just bought some 4K Blu-rays to watch instead of thinking about upgrades: Dunkirk 4K Blu-ray Star War the last Jedi 4k Blu-ray Emoji 4k Blu-ray Paddington 2 4K Blu-rays Smurfs the Lost Village 4k Blu-ray Blade runner 4k blu-ray Ratatouille 3D Blu-ray.
I really should spend more on 4k Blu-rays because I don’t own many, or 3D Blu-rays or Blu-rays.
