It was quite a surprise to me just how much better the LS50 Wireless can be over its own passive version. I wonder if the increased mass (weight) and depth have an effect or if it's all a matter of the internal amp and DSP. All I know is that they're capable of besting a good many speakers in higher price ranges and I long to have a pair!
Nice review, bang on.

I would guess that the increased weight could have some effect on sound quality, however small, but the major aspect is the bespoke onboard amplification. The passive version was always tricky to get a good matching amp - actually, scratch that - it wasn't a case of finding a good matching amp, the main issue was that with the LS50 being a very well reviewed speaker, many people wanted them, but they were partnering them with insufficient amplification. So matching them is a little easier than most think - they just need a quality amplifier!
I was listening to them again yesterday, only now, I've moved them right up against the solid brick wall - I can't get them any closer due to the mians leads! Changed the bass control to suit, and still sounding fantastic. How many rear ported speakers can you push up against a wall and still have them sound great?!!
